What can you do for Friends of Verona Senior Center & the Verona Senior Center?

The Senior Center is Verona Community’s hub of activities for older adults – offering social, educational and recreational activities, as well as services for those who need them. The staff and Friends of Verona Senior Center Board have a vision of what the Center can become. As we move to realize that vision, we need your help and involvement in many ways:

Participate in Center Activities The Center offers a rich assortment of activities that are not only fun, but also enriching to the mind and body. Look at the monthly calendar in the Chronicle to see what activities you might enjoy and give them a try.

Volunteer Without volunteers the Verona Senior Center could not function. The paid staff is very small and must spend most of its time providing needed services to Verona seniors. Volunteers help with core service activities like delivering lunches and driving local seniors to medical appointments. They also assist the staff by working at the desk, helping prepare the Chronicle each month, helping manage many of the Center’s social and recreational activities and in a variety of other ways. Volunteers also help the Board with fundraising projects. Ask staff or Board members what you can do to help the Center.

Bring a Friend/Tell a Friend – When you come to the Center for an activity, invite a friend who might also enjoy the activity. When you come to the birthday/anniversary lunch, invite a friend to help you celebrate. Come to lunch even when it is not your birthday month. Do you have a friend who does not get the Chronicle? Buy them a subscription.

Help Develop New Activities – Is there something you enjoy doing that other seniors might enjoy as a Center activity? Suggest it to a member of the Board or the staff. Help us get it started. Do you have ideas for raising money for the Center? Let a Board member know.

Support the Center Financially – The Board needs funds to pay for things such as the entertainment at the monthly birthday/anniversary lunch, the costs of printing and distribution of the Chronicle (over and above the $12 that subscribers pay), equipment (such as the Wii system and the Bocce courts) and a variety of other expenses are not in the Center’s budget allocation from the City. Donations to the Center are tax deductible and very much appreciated.

Give the Staff & Board Feedback – Do you have ideas to improve the way things are done at the Senior Center? Share them with staff or Board members. Your complaints, compliments and suggestions are always welcome and taken seriously.

With your participation and help, the Senior Center will go even further in realizing its potential value to the Verona senior community.
